• Medi-Cal is free health insurance for current and former foster youth living in California.

  • Coverage includes medical care, vision exams, substance abuse treatment, mental services and counseling, and dental care.

  • You qualify if you were in foster care when you turned 18 or later, even if you were in foster care in another state.

  • You can sign up even if you are not sure that you qualify.

  • You only have to sign up once and you are covered until you turn 26. No need to renew every year.

  • You can sign up anytime and the application is only 1 page, no income is asked.

  • You can apply directly through Sacramento County. You do not have to apply through Covered California.

  • Bring completed application and proof of residency (driver's license or California ID card, utility bill in your name, or vehicle registration in your name) to a Sac County office near you. Click here for a list of locations.
